Purple corn is a genetic mutation of maize. It flowers cultivated or in the wild in several places of America. The purple corn was cultivated in Peru in pre-Hispanic times and was known as moro sara or kulli sara. It is also cultivated by the peasants of Yucatan and the Indian tribes Hobi and Navajos in the United States.
