Doña Pepa's Turrón is one of the emblematic pastries of the city of Lima. Its name "turrón" evokes the Spanish nougat, but these two sweets have nothing in common. The Turrón de Doña Pepa is the pastry associated with the celebrations of the Lord of Miracles of the Month of October in Lima. It is a cake made up of several levels of shortbread cookies shaped like sticks and flavoured with anise. After baking in the oven, the cookies are staggered in several layers. The whole thing is then covered with a Chancaca syrup and abundantly decorated with balls and festive sugar shapes of different colours and flavours. It's one of the most popular cakes of Peruvian gastronomy.
EL INTI joins the Peruvian tradition of the Lord of Miracles and puts Doña Pepa's Turrón on sale every year from October.
