The history of wine in Peru goes back to the first decades of the Spanish colony when vines were brought from the Canary Islands. For a long time, viticulture was practiced in a completely artisanal way until at the end of the 19th century some industrial projects began to develop.

In the Peruvian market, the traditional consumption of wines has always been local wines produced with grapes called Borgoña while its original denomination is Isabel, but French grape varieties remain today at the base of the best wines of Peru.
